The Wine Almanac

Privacy Policy

We collect as little about you as a website can. This page sets out what that is, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

Who we are

This policy covers the website thewinealmanac.com. The Wine Almanac is a personal, independent editorial project run by an individual editor established in Spain, who is responsible for the personal data described here (the data controller). For anything about your personal data, contact us at contact@thewinealmanac.com.

Because the editor is established in Spain, the personal data handled by this website is governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Spanish data protection law.

The short version

The Wine Almanac does not use analytics, advertising trackers or user accounts, and there is no form on this website that sends us your details. The personal data involved in reading the site is limited to the technical information that every request to a website involves, and to anything you choose to send us by email.

When you visit the site

Like any website, this one cannot be delivered to you without your browser sending some technical information, such as your IP address, the page requested, and your browser and device type. Two services receive it:

We use this only to deliver the website and keep it working securely. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a reliable publication. Our editorial content is stored with Supabase, a database and storage provider; reading the site does not send your personal data to it.

When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever your message contains. We use it to read and reply to your message and to deal with any follow-up, which is in our legitimate interest and yours. Our mailboxes are provided by Zoho. We keep correspondence for as long as it is needed for those purposes.

Newsletter

Sign-up to the Founding Reader newsletter is not open yet, and this website does not currently collect email addresses for it. Before it opens, we will update this policy to explain how subscriptions are handled, by whom, and how to leave.

Links to other websites

Wine Stories link to merchants and producers. Some of these are affiliate links, which run through the affiliate network Awin (see our Affiliate Disclosure). When you follow a link, you leave The Wine Almanac: Awin, the merchant or the producer handles your data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell wine or take payments, and we do not receive your payment or delivery details.

Cookies

The Wine Almanac does not set cookies. Our Cookie Policy explains this, and what other websites may do once you follow a link.

Where your data is processed

Vercel and Google are based in the United States, so technical data about your visit may be processed outside the European Economic Area by those providers, under the safeguards set out in their own terms.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop or restrict using it. You can object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests. To do any of these, write to contact@thewinealmanac.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, aepd.es) or, if you live in another country of the European Union, with the data protection authority there.

Age

This website is about wine and is intended for adults of legal drinking age.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when what the site does changes, including before newsletter sign-up opens. The date at the top shows the latest version.
