What an affiliate link is

The Wine Almanac participates in affiliate programmes through Awin and may work with different wine merchants and retailers. When a reader follows an affiliate link and makes a qualifying purchase, The Wine Almanac may receive a commission at no additional cost to the reader. This helps cover the cost of running the publication.

How we label them

An affiliate link on The Wine Almanac reads Find this wine and is marked Ad, with a short note, immediately before the link. It appears in the section of a Wine Story headed Where to find it.

Not every external link is an affiliate link, and not every wine we write about is available through an affiliate partner. Some Wine Stories link instead to a producer's or merchant's official website. Those links read Visit website; they are not affiliate links and earn us nothing. Some Wine Stories have no link at all.

What affiliate links do not decide

We choose the wines, places and stories we write about on editorial grounds. Whether a wine has an affiliate link does not decide whether we feature it or what we say about it.

Buying a wine

The Wine Almanac does not sell wine. We do not take payments, and we do not ship or deliver orders. Any purchase is made on the merchant's own website, and prices, availability, delivery and the terms of sale are set by that merchant. A link is a way to find a wine; it is not a guarantee or an endorsement of the merchant beyond the context in which we mention it.

Tracking and cookies

When you follow an affiliate link, you pass briefly through Awin's tracking service before reaching the merchant's website. Awin and the merchant may use cookies on their own websites to record the referral. The Wine Almanac itself sets no cookies; our Cookie Policy explains this.
